My name is Skylar and I am excited to be wrapping up high school and to prepare for a future in the medical field. I have been an honors student, a competitive cheerleader, a good friend, a committed volunteer, and a strong leader. I strive to be hardworking inside and outside the classroom and within my community. One of my favorite quotes is "We make a living by what we get. We make a life by what we give.” — Sir Winston Churchill.
Education Path
Education has always been very important to me, and I have worked hard to maintain all A’s and stay at the top of my class. My GPA is 5.098 and my current class rank is 6 out of 349. I have taken all honors classes, when offered, as well as passed two AP class exams, two IB class exams, and will have completed three dual credits and an additional AP class by the time I graduate. I have taken life skills and health science classes to prepare me for my future career goals. I also take a total body workout class every year to keep physically fit, always striving to be well rounded in my course selection.
I plan to attend a four year university and earn a degree in nursing or a related science. Upon graduation, I plan to get my masters degree in Anesthesia. I am looking forward to working as a Anesthesiologist Assistant (CAA).
Lifelong Career Goals
Awards and Recognitions
Being recognized with awards is a great honor. I am proud to have achieved both athletic and academic awards. I have been on the A Honor Roll throughout high school while taking rigorous courses and staying ranked between 4th and 6th in our class. I was recognized as a Junior Marshal for being in the top 40 students my junior year. I received both academic and athletic letters as well as various recognitions including most improved cheerleader.
One thing I am extremely proud of is stepping out of my comfort zone and writing an essay to apply to attend the Palmetto Girls State. After my essay was selected, I interviewed with a panel of judges from the American Legion Auxiliary and was ultimately selected to represent my high school. This experience was truly incredible. I learned so much about our government and even ran for county council and the House of Representatives. I won both elections! As a member of the House of Representatives, I was able to sit in the state house where our SC House votes and present my proposed bill to add metal detectors to all high school campus’.
My junior year, I was selected for the Bearcat Award. It is the highest award offered at Rock Hill High. One male and one female are selected by the teachers and staff for showing Bearcat PRIDE (Participation, Respect, Integrity, Dedication, & Excellence).

Sideline and Competitive Cheer
High school athletes are typically successful, driven, and in good physical health. As a seventh grader, I made the high school varsity team as one of only two middle schoolers. I was awarded most improved by the end of eighth grade. Our team does sideline cheer for football and basketball as well as compete against other teams in the state. Over the past six years, our team has faced many challenges and loses. I have worked to be a good role model, a leader, and to encourage the team to come together and stay positive. When I graduate, I will be a six-time varsity letter recipient.
All-Star Cheer
Important qualities you gain as an Allstar Cheerleader are determination, discipline, leadership, teamwork, confidence, and goal setting. I started Allstar Cheer when I was seven years old. I worked my way from level one skills all the way to level six. Most recently I have been competing at Cheer Athletics in Charlotte, NC. Throughout my cheer experience I have traveled to numerous competitions all over the country. I practice six hours a week with my team and we attend six-eight competitions per year. The Summit is a highly prestigious end of season event held in Orlando, Florida with the top teams competing from all over the world. I have been a part of three summit finalist teams, most recently coming in fourth in the world.
Community Service
Getting involved in your community through volunteering has a lot of advantages, helping both you and the community overall. For me, it has helped me grow as a person, learn new skills, and feel like I have a purpose. I grew up watching my mom pour back into the community and I have always wanted to become just like her. I have volunteered at the Dorothy Day Soup Kitchen, Come See Me’s Healthy Kids Zone, Come See Me’s Teddy Bear Tea party, Christmasville, Holidays with Heroes, Rock Hill Schools Foundation, Just Joy Dance, Heritage Multicultural Event, York County Talent Show, Miracle Park, Marlie Dru Sullivan Foundation, Fort Mill Four-Year-Old Lab School Program, Angel Tree, and I adopted a family for Christmas to provide a meal and gifts for them.

Special Project: Marlie’s Closet
I lost my best friend, Marlie, in July of 2024 in a tragic golf cart accident. She was loved by everyone who was lucky enough to have met her. I am forever thankful for having her as my best friend for over 10 years. After she passed, we all felt lost. We knew we wanted to carry on her legacy and began encouraging others to “Live Like Marlie.” The Marlie Dru Sullivan Foundation was created so that her impact will reach well beyond her short time on earth. The foundation’s first major fundraiser was only six short months after the accident. A Sweet 16 gala was held in honor of her birthday. The gala raised nearly $1,000,000! The foundation has 12 board members and named eight of Marlie’s closest friends to the student committee, including myself.
Our committee is committed to carrying on Marlie’s legacy through the “Marlie’s Closet” initiative. Our student led committee focusses on collecting new and gently used dance costumes and formal gowns, organizing them and hosting sales several times throughout the year. The goal is to make sure that beautiful costumes and gowns are available at affordable prices throughout our community. Some of my other responsibilities include running Instagram and TikTok pages for Marlie’s Closet and creating content to drive traffic to our shop. Our first major sale was for the 2025 prom season. We collected over 300 formal gowns. Marlie’s closet has already made nearly $10,000. The money we raise is used to provide scholarships along with supporting the foundation’s goal of building a performing arts center in Rock Hill, SC. Three scholarships were awarded in May of 2025 to girls who have shown that they “Live Like Marlie” in their everyday lives. As a student committee, we are also called upon to help the foundation with other endeavors such as volunteering at baseball games and other events in Marlie’s honor, working at the gala, and soon helping with the Marlie Dru Sullivan Golf Tournament. Please visit www.MarlieDruSullivan.org for more information about Marlie and the work we are doing to make sure she is never forgotten.
This past year has taught me that although grief can be isolating and extremely painful, it can also ignite a sense of purpose from within. I am working to spread love and kindness to honor Marlie’s memory in a way that I know would make her proud. Marlie’s Closet is just one way that I will continue to connect with others in memory of our sweet friend.

Clubs
Research indicates that students who are involved in school clubs have greater academic achievements, improved social skills, and a stronger sense school spirit. Engaged students are also more likely to have better attendance, increased motivation, and are less likely to be involved in bad behavior. All of these are reasons why I strive to be involved in my school. Some of the clubs that I have been involved in are DECA, Beta Club, Student Council (Student Body Secretary), National Honors Society (President), Fellowship of Christian Athletes, and Prom Committee. Go Bearcats!
Extracurricular Activities
Being involved in extracurricular activities results in various positive outcomes, including higher self-esteem, better time management, and a sense of belonging. Some of the extracurricular activities that I have enjoyed are Powderpuff, Young Life, Youth Group, Showtime Theatre, Homecoming Court and Junior Theatre Festival.

Work Experience
As a student in High School, I have had to work to learn life lessons and to pay for things like clothes, snacks, gas, and car insurance. I have worked at a lighting store called Decorative Lighting, at Rock Hill Gymnastics, and as a babysitter. These jobs have given me experience with busy environments, dealing with customers, taking care of children, and have overall made me more responsible.
